The McPherson High School Bullpups came out on top the night of the Buhler game. On Oct. 24 the Bullpups beat their rivals the Buhler Crusaders. The score ended at 21-15. This win had the stands filled with cheer and gave the team a big reason to be proud of themselves.
Prior to the game, the Bullpups had a big week of preparation. Coach Chet Harlin said, “The focus has been better this week in practice than previous weeks.” The players had lots of determination to go out there and do their best.
Both teams came ready to play, and the energy was definitely high out on that field. McPherson scored the first touchdown of the game, which set the tone early. Buhler then came out with a touchdown keeping things close in the first quarter.
It was a very good night for McPherson’s defense and Sophomore Brody Hoffman. Junior Takoda Linn stated, “Our defense definitely stepped up big time, but Brody Hoffman’s deep touchdown catch gave us a ton of momentum and the lead in the 3rd quarter.”
As the clock ran down, McPherson’s defense came in clutch again, stopping Buhler’s final drive and securing that win. The crowd went absolutely ballistic and was filled with excitement. Despite the cold and misty weather, that didn’t stop the players and fans from showing up.
This win means a lot to so many people. Senior Krayton Byrd said, “For me personally, this win means a lot and shows how good of a football team we are when we are all pulling on the same side of the rope as a team.” This goes to show how hard these players worked for this win.
This win adds another memorable chapter to the intense McPherson and Buhler rivalry. The Bullpups came out and showed teamwork and pride. The kind of effort that defines McPherson football.
