The McPherson Bullpups football brings a big win to Riverfront Stadium against the Buhler Crusaders.

Riverfront Stadium, in Wichita, hosted the Air Capital High School Football Series which was presented by Mel Hambelton Ford this fall. The games were held for some of the top rivalries around the area, and on October 18, McPherson High School and Buhler High School had the opportunity to play against each other.

Prior to the game, McPherson held a record of 4-3, and is ranked #14 in KS Division 4a. Buhler held a record of 6-1, and is ranked #10 in KS Division 4a.

Though Buhler had a better record throughout the season, McPherson didn’t let that stop them. McPherson dominated the 1st half of the game bringing the score to 28-14 at halftime. Buhler came up strong during the second half with two touchdowns, which took the score to 28-26. Buhler attempted a two-point conversion at the end of the fourth quarter to tie the score, but it was blocked by Senior, Teegan Haines, leaving the Bullpups with a 28-26 win.

Having the opportunity to play at Riverfront Stadium was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the athletes and fans of both the Bullpups, and the Crusaders. Shelley Worden, a cheerleader at MHS, stated that it was one of the best football games she has ever been able to cheer at. “The game felt more professional, especially with the big screen. The atmosphere was way better and it overall was just a more fun experience than your average football game.”

McPherson is scheduled to play Mulvane this week for the first week of the playoff bracket, and Buhler is scheduled to play Ulysses. If both teams can take home a win, they will be set to go head-to-head one last time, next Friday.
