On Friday, September 22, 2023, McPherson’s football team blew Circle off their feet with a massive win.

Prior to last week’s game, the McPherson High School Bullpups had a record of 1-2, while the Circle T-Birds also had a record of 1-2. The Pups played a good game, keeping the T-birds at 32-0 at the end of the third quarter. The T-birds put up a good fight and came back with a few late scores in the fourth quarter, ending the game at 32-16.

Though the Bullpups dominated the T-Birds, Coach Chet Harlin voiced his opinion about how he felt the team played, “I feel like we played a pretty clean game defensively up until the last 6 minutes where we gave up a couple of late scores. We still have a lot of room for improvement and need to continue to get better every week.”

Coach Harlin also felt like a few of his athletes have really improved individually. He gave a shout-out to Chase Koehn, stating, “I really like the improvement that Chase Koehn has made up to this point in the season.” Koehn is a Junior this year, playing defensive end.

Carlos German, McPhersons Junior runningback, also played a great game against Circle with 101 rushing yards, and a touchdown in just the first half.

With the win against Circle, it brought the Bullpup’s record up to 2-2.

Last week, the Bullpups battled a tough game against Winfield High School but ended up winning in the last quarter, with a score of 17-14. This week they will have the opportunity to play Wellington whose record is currently 3-2, and ranked #17 in KS Division 4A.

Coach Harlin is excited about the upcoming games and is looking forward to some new competition. The bullpups may not have started the season as well as they hoped, but are certainly making a comeback!
