On Saturday Oct 25 the McPherson High School debate team went to Salina Central High School to compete in a tournament.
This year’s topic in debate is about the Arctic. ¨The United States federal government should significantly increase its exploration and or development of the Arctic.¨ says Oliver Bowman, a sophomore in debate.
With the topic being decided, researching and strategizing is well maintained with the assistance of Mr. Shopper. With plenty of practice dates, they are able to prepare for the competition.
Things that the debate members did well in was their constructive speeches ¨My eight minute speeches are always really strong because i have enough time to plan them out and execute them well.¨ says Kamyrn Carver, a senior in debate.
All of their hard work paid off because they achieved high scores. They had little to no difficulty debating their competition.
The McPherson High School debate team achieved many good scores at the tournament at the Salina Central High School. ¨We placed first place, second place, third place, and fourth place in open; and then in novice we got fifth place¨ says Bowman.
