qMcPherson High School’s musical this year is “The Drowsy Chaperone”. The musical takes place in the roaring 20’s and features various unique characters. The musical is narrated from the perspective of a musical enthusiast, “The Man in the Chair”. The main storyline of the musical follows a wedding that goes awry.

The 23 cast members involved range from all grades at McPherson High School. The vocal director is Nick Griggs, and the scene director is Greg McGlynn. The production’s choreographer, Rachel Thompson, is a student at Sterling College and is involved in their theatre program.

The lead of the musical, Janet Van De Graff, is played by Sr. Mallory Holmes. This is Mallory’s fourth year being involved in the musicals and has many fond memories of being involved in them.

Holmes explains that the reason she has continued to do the musicals is the friendships and relationships she makes during the shows, along with encouragement from Griggs. Holmes recalls “Mr. Griggs is who inspired me to be involved in high school theatre, he always encourages me and puts so much work into the musicals here.”

February 8 through the 10th the cast of McPherson High School’s “The Drowsy Chaperone” will be taking the stage. You can purchase tickets at the door when you come to see the show. Make sure to come support McPherson High School’s theatre department!
