On February 19th and 20th, the McPherson Swim Team will be leaving McPherson at 6 AM to go to Topeka, Kansas. They’ll be competing in The Kansas State High School Championship with other teams from around Kansas. Eric Gaeddert, Spencer Steinert, Jori VanGoethem, Dawson VanGoethem, and Gavin Soukup will all be competing for individual events. Isaac Duran and Carson Stone will be doing relays. Silas Steinert and Rece Reiman will be the alternates.

The event is for all school’s 5A-1A but only swimmers that meet a certain time standard throughout the season are able to compete. Coach, Matt Morrow said, “Based on our times this season, I think we might have one or two individual swimmers that could make the top 16 in their respective events and one of our relays that might be able to get into the top 16.”

One of those individuals is Eric Gaeddert, who last year placed 7th in the 200 freestyle. This year he is competing in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Gavin Soukup is also competing in the 200 and 500 freestyle, and Spencer Steinert is competing in the 500 freestyle.
