Carol was the owner of ´The White Swan´ which was a diner on Main street recently known as the ´Neighbors Cafe.´ ´The white swan´ was a place where many people could meet and have gatherings while sharing a meal. The white swan was a generational owned restaurant within her family. Outside of the white swan she had 3 kids Kathy, Kent , and Kim, she also has a husband.
Growing up Carol lived in McPherson her whole life. Her dad was a sheriff for McPherson and she was an only child so she spent most of her time playing with her horses and cattle they had at their farm. She always felt pressured to be on her best behavior worried about the trouble she would get in with her father ¨My father was a police man so i was always trying to act well behaved ¨ Said Carol.
One of her most cherished moments was her first Christmas with her husband, it was her first time meeting his family and she was very anxious to meet them¨The first time I met his family was on Christmas it was incredibly busy ¨ Said Carol. In the end, Christmas was very busy but that got her past her nerves.
Decisions shape and mold your life along the way creating outcomes that shape your life that lead to the next chapter in your life.
Carol studied to be a nurse for a long period until she met her spouse to be , so she shifted her focus and shifted to nursing. After she dropped out of nursing school she and her husband got married in 1956. ¨We were married for a little over 50 years.¨ said Carol. They were married for approximately 69
years.
With new relationships create new bonds that change your life significantly. They bring many new things, new challenges, new opportunities, and new ways of seeing things.
Not long after her marriage Carol and her husband had three kids together and opened ´The white swan ´ which was mostly ran by Carol with the help of her husband who was a coach. The week of Christmas was always business even though they were closed on Christmas¨The week of Christmas always had the restaurant stuffed with people¨.
Owning the shop helped show their kids responsibilities. They raised their kids to be well behaved and caring¨My favorite things about my kids are how kind and caring they are¨. Just how her father taught her. Carol’s favorite lesson growing up was to do the right things¨Do what is expected of her and don’t break the rules¨ Said Carol.
Seasons come and go, while living and bringing happiness daily to people around you. ´The white swan´ brought many smiles to McPherson bringing families together to have a meal. That was Carol’s favorite part of owning ´The white swan´, the happiness she brought to others , especially during the weeks getting closer to the holidays. She loved seeing the large groups of people come together for all celebrations rather it be for holidays, birthdays, or special occasions.
