Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, giving us plenty of time to treat our sweethearts. The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Club, FCCLA, is giving students a fun way to do just that.

“FCCLA has sold carnations and cookies for Valentine’s Day since before I came to McPherson High School,” said Julie Diepenbrock, the club’s sponsor, “It is a fun tradition because students enjoy sending and receiving them for Valentines.”

For $2 you can send a white, red, or pink carnation to be delivered to a student, and for $1 you can send a homemade cookie. Club members are selling the flowers and cookies in the lunchroom during both 1st and 2nd lunch.

“I love celebrating Valentine’s Day,” said junior, Natalie Rowe, “I think it’s a special day for you and your loved ones- I am planning on getting some of my friends flowers, and a cookie for my boyfriend,” she said, “And I hope to get a flower in return.”

Flowers and cookies will be delivered on Tuesday, Valentine’s Day, during classes by FCCLA members that helped sell the treats.

“I think they’re cool,” said senior Jimmy Fortner, “It was creative and was very well done, plus it seems to be very successful.”

The last day to buy will be this Friday, but there are usually extra carnations and cookies after the sale.

“Any carnations that are not sold are delivered to residents at the Cedars,” said Diepenbrock, “That may actually be my favorite part of this all.”
