Freshman Sarah Eilert gives up

The memes are now becoming more relatable than ever. With finals right around the corner, students are overstressed and underslept. Freshmen through seniors are expected to complete tests and projects for gruelling, last-minute, major grades on Tuesday the 20th and Wednesday the 21st. The next couple days are a nightmare for anyone with test anxiety, or those who have trouble studying. Finals are also a huge change for freshmen who may have never taken a final before.

“I am very nervous,” freshman, Ashley Moore said, “I have a feeling that these finals are going to be much more difficult than those in middle school.”

She just might be right. You’d think that by this time around, seniors would be used to the stress and panic of finals week, but most aren’t.

“Finals this year are more stressful since three or four of mine are for college classes,” senior Ashley Gant said.

This semester’s finals can also change what grade a student, like senior Lauren Birzer, will get in the class as an ending grade.

“I have one grade that I am very nervous about because my final will determine if I get an A or B in that class,” Birzer said.

For some students, the idea of taking tests for major grades at the last minute of the semester doesn’t seem like that great of an idea. However, on the flip side, others don’t mind it and even find it beneficial.

“I support finals, but I wish they were in the last week of school, not the last two days,” Gant said. “It’s very stressful as a student to have three or four significant test all in one day. I think finals are important though, to make sure that the students understand the material they learned.”

Students hoping to survive the next week should stop procrastinating, get more sleep, and eat healthier, at least for the next couple of days. Finals are taxing on the body and soul, but the students at MHS are bound to make it. As a PSA, don’t be like Ashley Moore and let the next few days get to you.

“I am really stressed out and my mom says that’s not good for me,” Moore said, “I’m pretty sure I am currently emotionally unstable.”
