September 26th is the beginning of Spirit Week at McPherson High School. Spirit Week is the chance for students to present their Bullpup Pride in a fun way, while also supporting the homecoming candidates.

“I always forget to dress out on the first day of spirit week, but I love it anyways,” said Christal Regehr, a MHS senior. “There are always such cool ideas that my friends do.”

Homecoming  this year is based on Dr. Seuss, and anything related to his books. On Sunday, the 25th, MHS students gathered at school to deck the halls in rhymes, pictures, and other decorations. The Cat in the Hat is the central focus, but characters such as the Lorax and the Grinch have been incorporated into the locker and hallway decor.

“The Dr. Seuss theme is co cute!” said Dayla Gordon, a junior at MHS. “I feel like a lot of us grew up reading his books, and this just brings back memories,” she said. “My favorite is the Red Fish, Blue Fish section.”

Following suit with homecoming, Spirit Week’s theme is also Dr. Seuss. Whoville, The Cat in the Hat, mixed with A Fox in Socks, Thing One and Thing Two, Oh the Places You’ll Go, and one fish, two fish, red fish, white fish, is the week’s schedule. In short, crazy hair day, crazy hat mixed with crazy sock day, twin day, college apparel day, and school pride day, respectively.

“STUCO went all out this year,” said Regehr. “I think this might actually be my favorite homecoming week since I’ve been here.”

Although homecoming candidates won’t be voted and decided on until the end of the week, MHS is prepared and hyped up with school spirit.

“I know it’s cheesy, but Spirit Week does make me feel a little more pride for my school,” said Gordon. “I really can’t wait to participate this year!”
