If you have driven around McPherson High School recently, you might have noticed the new paintings decorating the parking spaces. The spaces were each bought for 50 dollars at the end of last school year. On August 13th, the 38 MHS seniors that purchased spots gathered to paint their marks. The fundraiser, called Paint Your Space is sponsored by senior class officer, Erica Shook. The money raised will go to this year’s senior class.

“I found out about the senior parking spaces from the class ahead of me, and wanted a spot because I thought it was a great resource for when I get to leave for lunch senior year,” Thomas Smith, senior said.

“I definitely think that this will become a tradition, especially with the money that it generates for the senior class” Smith continued.

100% of the proceeds from Paint Your Space helps to fund Senior Breakfast, Project Graduation, and the class graduation speaker. The idea was initially brought up by the class of 2016 officers, after an okay from Athletic Director, Shane Backhus, the first parking spots were painted in October of last year.

“Running the Paint Your Space fundraiser is simply an extension of my Senior Class Sponsor duties. I love to try new things, and my officers know that if they see a cool idea they want to try here, I will do what I can to help them make it happen,” Erica Shook said.

“As long as I continue as Senior Class Sponsor, we will do the Paint Your Space fundraiser. Seniors enjoy the convenience of reserved parking, the community loves to see their creativity, and it is a fantastic example of school spirit.” Shook said.
