The AP Environmental Science class at McPherson High School is raising money to donate to help the environment around the world. The class is using Kiva to give out small loans to people in need. A bake sale will be hosted in the cafeteria on February 29 during both first and second lunches to raise money.

“We chose Kiva because it gives up the opportunity to read people’s stories and choose where to donate our money so we can make a difference in other countries,” senior Hannah Stecklein said.

Kiva is a non-profit organization that aims to help people out of poverty. After looking through profiles and stories, you can donate a minimum of $25 to a person or group in need. The class needs at least $50 to sustain the site per year, but hopes to raise excess funds to help more people.

The bake sale will feature earth themed cupcakes and cookies, red and white chocolate covered Oreos and other treats. APES is hoping to raise enough money to donate to several different causes.

“I’m not sure how well it will go but I’m really hoping for the best,” junior Hailee Snyder said. “Donating is important to me because it’s for a good cause so I’m super excited.”
