Many students have jobs of all kinds during high school including working at fast food joints, dine-ins, or local shops. What is unique to few students is owning their own businesses in high school.
Rebecca Lulloff a senior that is taking classes online, has a nail business called ¨Rebeccalynails¨. She started her business in December of 2024 and she plans on continuing her education in Cosmetology ¨I am attending Hutchinson Community College this June in their cosmetology program.¨, said Lulloff.
Just like many other high schoolers, Lulloff found her passion through her hobbies .¨Before transitioning to a business I would regularly do my own nails along with a couple of close friends.¨ ,said Lulloff.
One of the best parts about working with people is they are almost always honest when it comes to feedback, especially when you are new to the work field.
The feedback Lulloff got from her clients was almost always positive. ¨The majority of my clients are in high school, but I have a few that are in middle school or college.¨ Although many of her clients are young adults, she gets positive feedback from her clients.
¨I have mostly gotten positive feedback. Luckily ,I have a very kind clientele who has supported me through my whole nail journey, so they have stuck with me as my skills have grown.¨, Lulloff explains.
Another example of an MHS student who owns a business is Caden Wenderott.
Wenderott, a senior at McPherson High School, has been taking photos and selling them since August 2025. He started photography off as a hobby and has continued to take photos. He mainly takes photos of athletes but would like to expand his horizons.
With the help of Wenderott’s dedication for photography, he is able to have exceptional products that show how hard he is working. This entails the confidence he has in his product which leads to greater success.
The people who get photographed by Wenderott compliment the way he is able to capture a scene. ¨Great feedback, no one has said anything bad about it.¨, Wenderott explained.
With the feedback he receives, he is able to adjust how the audience will perceive future photos. Through his great work he gains many more clientele to support him.
Two of Wenderott’s ways to spread news about his business is through people and social media. ¨My friends know about it, so they tell other people, and I post on my story if I’m gonna be at a game.¨, Wenderott said.
He wants to get better at certain things so he can have more opportunities with photography. One of his plans on gaining experience is through college classes.
In the next couple years while Wenderott is at college he plans to take a class on photography. He wants to gain more experience and learn new things.
¨I plan to expand [my skills],¨ Wenderott said. “Next year when I’m in college I’ll probably do some more sports there.¨
There are many upsides to owning your own business. A few examples would be making your own schedule, choosing your clientele, and being able to connect with things you enjoy. Being able to do this while in high school is quite the accomplishment.
