McPherson High School’s wrestling team traveled to rival Buhler on Saturday February 18 for the Regional Championship. Fortunately for the McPherson wrestlers, six boys were able to push through Regionals to qualify for State. The boys include, Rhett Edmonson, Brynton Crews, Austin Eldredge, Scott Radke, and Bailey Yarborough.

The boys were able to set goals early in the season to motivate themselves to get as many teammates as they could to state.

“Some of the goals we talked about were just wrestling our best, trying to win AVCTL, and getting as many kids to state as possible,” said Senior Austin Eldredge.

This year’s wrestling team, has two possible Wall of Famers. Senior Austin Eldredge and Freshman Rhett Edmonson are dominating all competition in their weight classes.

“Mentally I’m excited for State. I think I’ve worked hard enough to accomplish it and now I’m ready to go try and win it,” said Eldredge. “My family have been huge supporters throughout the years and I am very grateful for all they’ve done for me.”

These six boys will start their State Tournament on Friday February 24th at Salina’s Bicentennial Center.
