To say it was one of McPherson High’s best boys swim season, would be an understatement. This year’s boys swimming team completed their season Saturday, February 18th at the 4A State Tournament.

There were several top finishers for the Pups, including Eric Gaeddert, Dawson VanGoethem, Will Powers, Carson Stone, and Jori VanGoethem. Eric Gaeddert found himself once again in the finals in the 50 and 100 freestyle race. He will go down as one of the best swimmers in MHS history. Not only did he complete in the freestyle races, he contributed to two relays that also made it to finals. One of the relays was the 200 medley relay consisting of Powers, Gaeddert, Stone, and D. VanGoethem. The 200 medley team finished the weekend with a sixth place finish. The second relay that made it to finals and finished seventh was the 400 freestyle relay of Powers, J. VanGoethem, D. VanGoethem, and Gaeddert.

Fortunately, the pups were able to rack up the points by having Will Powers also make it to finals in the 100 backstroke by placing seventh. Along with the top finishers there were two consolation winners. Dawson VanGoethem, and Will Powers finished their 2016-2017 season by placing 9th in their events.

Not only, did the Pups place sixth but their coach, Matt Morrow, was voted Kansas Class 5-1A Coach of the Year.
