While there are many popular apps today, Pinterest is on the rise. Most people don’t realize that not only can you look at pictures and DIY, but there are also buyable pins. Things such as t-shirts, other clothing, and other items like jewelry and furniture. Majority of Pinterest users don’t go all the way to certain websites, but just pinning things they see that they like or find cute. Though some people will actually go on and look for certain items to buy at an affordable cost, but between the two not a lot of users don’t know about buyable pins, but appreciate it when they find out about it.

Many photography businesses use Pinterest to find new ideas and to help their clients figure out where the want the pictures and sometimes outfit ideas. Photographer Lisa Stout for Lisa Stout Photography says she gets on Pinterest a few times every week. She even uses it for recreating poses or ideas. “I use Pinterest constantly for my photography business. I have boards for different clients, which I often use as a pose and idea check list. Many people have looked at photo ideas and will sometimes ask me to recreate an idea they found.” Her process is

  1. I get a call from a client asking for a photo session, be it a family, newborn, engagement, wedding, etc.
  2. I schedule the session and then log into Pinterest.
  3. I look at my pre pinned ideas for the newborn session and write a list of ideas I want to try. I write poses, prop ideas, locations, color combinations, etc.
  4. I do a search on Pinterest for new ideas I’ve never tried before and add them to my list.
  5. I go to the session with my list of ideas. Even before Pinterest she was prepared, but with the help of boards her business became more organized and Lisa was able to find more ideas for her clients.
