Prom is on April 2nd, and the junior class has been constructing and decorating for the occasion. They’ve held various prom construction days for juniors to participate in since as far back as February.

“Prom construction has gone really well,” said Elizabeth Evans, a junior. “It is starting to really come together.”

However, on Thursday the 24th, a recent construction date, a minor electrical fire broke out around 8:30 p.m. at Albert’s Plumbing, where construction has been taking place. Students were ushered outside while the fire department put out the flames. Volunteers and students cut the allotted time short and went home after the fire was put out. No one was hurt, and there was minimal damage to the building itself. Despite this hang up, prom is still on track.

“We are ahead of schedule, and everyone has been very helpful and willing to work,” said junior, Rachel Ivers. “I’ve enjoyed seeing it all come together.”

Two fundraisers were held to raise money for the dance. Juniors sold raffle tickets for a meat bundle and sold tickets for the Legion’s meal. If juniors attended four construction times and participated in fundraising, they will get April 1st off from school to help set up for prom.

“I’m really excited,” said Julia Ivers, a volunteer parent. “It takes a lot of people working together to get this done”

Many volunteers have come to together to make this prom happen. From designers, builders, and coordinators everyone has pitched in somehow.

“We have so many creative people on our design team who just have that talent to look at something and say ‘this can turn into that, and if we put this here or these certain colors there, it’ll look better for this,’” said Rachel Ivers.

Two more construction nights have been set up on Monday and Thursday before the assembly of prom begins on April 1st.

“Prom construction is fun because it’s nice to see how everything is coming together and being able to do it with friends,” said Evans. “I think as many juniors as possible should try and help with prom.”

Prom construction is an opportunity for classes to bond over a final, big project. Thomas Smith, a junior that’s helped with prom construction, believes that the best part is “seeing everybody come together and work as a team- both students and parents- to accomplish one goal.”

Prom tickets went on sale last week, and with that construction is wrapping up. Thursday night will be the last ‘building’ time before the actual set up on Friday.

“I can’t wait- I need to see it put together,” said Julia Ivers. “We’ve had fun. We’ve had a good time.”
