How to Have a Happier Day

Life can really knock you down sometimes, whether you received a low grade on a quiz, or your friends just can’t get on your level, being a high school student can be tough. When you’re stuck in that ditch, it can be really hard to drag yourself out and slap a smile on your face, however the MHS Newspaper is here to help with our go-to “How to Have a Happier Day.”

  1. Smile, even if you’re having a hard day, Charles Darwin once said, “The free expression by outward signs of an emotion intensifies it.”
  2. Get on Buzzfeed and take five of ten million quizzes. It’s really hard to be sad when you realize your inner spirit animal is a three legged sloth.
  3. Get a group of your old friends together, drive around and listen to some “Ice, Ice Baby” or “Dynamite.”
  4. Take a Detox bath. All you need to add to a hot bath is a handful of epsom salts, ten drops of lavender oil and a half cup of baking soda. These baths can help remove toxins from your body, ease stress and help circulation.
  5. Go to the Humane Society and pet cats. They’re open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
  6. Grab a cup of coffee. Nothing like a hot (or cold) cup of Joe to jump start your day.
  7. Plan an adventure. Get on Pinterest and start finding places to go exploring in the future. Finding something to look forward to, can make even the worst days better.
  8. Settle in with your favorite book. Make yourself some hot chocolate, wrap a quilt around you and just forget the world while you’re reading your book (or who am I kidding, watching Netflix.)

As Keith James sang in his song, “Not My Day,” “When your head’s out of place, you’re behind in the race of life, just not my day,” not everyday is going to be smiles. But there are always ways and reasons to smile and trek onward.
