McPherson High School’s girls’ basketball team has been starting off strongly with their Jamboree to begin off their season. The scrimmage was one win and one loss. You can tell this year they are going to be coming out stronger than ever with their new coach, Clint Kinnamon. All the girls have been showcasing their skill, determination, and teamwork on the court. Always able to pick up one another and cheering on the bench as loud as they can. With only 2 seniors this year, Ellie Bower and Ashton Hampton they look forward to leading their team with dedication and kindness.
One of the standout players this season is senior point guard, Ellie Bower. Bower has shown the crowd that she can knock down 3’s from anywhere on the court. Bowers ability to read the game and make crucial plays under the pressure has made others recognize how good of a player she is. She has not only earned her respect from her teammates and coaches, but her fans aswell. Bowers consistency performance has made her a key player to watch, and her experience has made it even more fun for the newcomers who look up to her.
Bower said, “ I love my teammates and I am very thankful I ended up with the team that I got this year. It is a very difficult learning process with our new coach, but it all is worth it.”
Alongside Rylie Whitfield has been on Varsity for two years in a row. Whitfield is a shooting guard and point guard. Whitfield has been a force in the paint; her eagerness in rebounds and her strong defensive presence have been crucial in many close games. Her athleticism and her attitude contribute to the team very well. Whitfield is able to shoot from anywhere behind the 3 point line.
Whitfield states, “Basketball is one of my favorite sports, I love when this season comes around! My teammates make me who I am today, I love all of them and I am grateful for my coaches.”
The team’s success, however, is not only due to the efforts of a few players. The Bullpup’s depth and balanced attack have been signifigant factors in their impressive run. Just recently, December 10, 2024 the girls had a game against Derby. Putting in as much effort and trying to win and came up with a loss.
Clint Kinnamon their head coach says, “We will always be working towards improvement no matter what. With some hard work and lots of training, we should be able to win. I am very proud of the players and how much they have been improving over the few weeks. I have made many connections with each of these players and I am so excited to see where we are going to go this year.”
The McPherson’s girls basketball team has also benefited from strong community support. The local fans have shown up in large numbers to cheer on the Bullpups, creating an electric atmosphere at home games. This support has fueled the team’s motivation and drive to succeed with passion and determination.
As the season goes on, the McPherson girls’ basketball team looks to continue their winning streak and make a deep run. Their combination of determination and talent really shows how well of a team they are. Just recently the girls went to Derby and with a loss 72-32 points, with their new plays and trying to remember all of them. The girls are always looking for rebounds, steals, and points.
