What Winter Tastes Like to Me

To me, winter tastes like peppermint. It tastes like sharp ice and water fountains whose water freezes halfway to your mouth. It tastes like burning hot cocoa warming the tips of your fingers. Winter tastes like steam and smoke like the sharp air you inhale and shoot back out in a cloud-like shape. It tastes like warm food fresh from the oven. Like baked goods and fire burning. It tastes like candied almonds you get at the mall. Winter tastes like apples and pumpkins baked in pastries and pies.  Sometimes even solo. Winter tastes like snowflakes melting on your tongue into water. It tastes like the homemade ice cream-snow cones we would try to make with the snow. It’s sugary, savory, salty, and freshly baked. What does winter taste like to you?
