jOn Tuesday, October 10 the Bullpup band traveled to Baldwin City to compete in the Baker Marching Competition. At Baker, they received a 1 rating and were awarded second place overall.

On Saturday, October 14 the band attended the Central States Marching Festival. This competition was in Manhattan and hosted by Kansas State University. The band received a 1 rating at this competition as well.

This year’s marching band show is called “Once Upon a Time in the West”. The show features an upbeat tempo and familiar Wild West tunes. Gacy Hubbard, a junior at McPherson High School, thinks that the best song in the show is Copland’s Finale. Her reasoning for this choice is because, “there is a big drum feature in this song for almost 24 measures, and it’s super fun to play.”

Hubbard plays the bass drum in the band and has been a member for 3 years now. She feels like the band is doing a very good job this year of working together and everyone putting in their best effort. Hubbard’s favorite part of being in band is getting to spend time with all of the people involved in it. She is most looking forward to getting to play at a band event taking place in Colorado this spring.
