“Genshin Impact”, developed by company HoYoverse (formerly miHoYo), has been growing in popularity since late 2020. One of the core mechanics of this game is the “wish” feature, which is basically the game’s form of a gacha mechanic. Simply enough, you spend your digital currency, or primogems, for a random chance of getting a new character or weapon.

While primogems are available to all players, whether you have money to spend or not, obtaining them can be hard. By all means, “Genshin Impact” isn’t pay-to-win, but some people are very willing to sink some money into their favorite characters, though not everyone does.

Assuming you’re NOT one of those people, you’re in luck! You’ll have plenty of chances to obtain primogems, even more so if you’re just starting out. The starting rewards for this game are very generous, and everyone obtains them when making a new account.

One of the best ways to gather more primogems, which works for new and old players, is exploring the world. Chests are scattered throughout the map, and the rarity of each chest increases the amount of primogems you receive. The lowest rarity of chests are Common Chests, which can give you 2 primogems, depending on various factors.

However, the highest rarity of chest you can find are Luxurious Chests. These will give you 10 primogems, excluding Shrines of Depths and puzzles. Shrines of Depths will always give you 40 primogems when unlocked with the region-specific key.

So, you’ve saved up some primogems. Now what? Well, each update comes with a new wish banner, although some banners are reruns. These banners contain characters that you can pull for, spending primogems in hopes of obtaining one. It’s best to find a character you really want and save for them.
