Mr.Strathman, girls basketball coach of 16 years and assistant of 10 years, currently teaches the personal finance class at MHS. This class is beneficial for students wanting to be more money smart and also teaches them many ways on how to save money over time. The class includes many video lessons on how to “become a millionaire” and includes lessons on subjects such as budgeting, saving, debt, and even investing for retirement.

Strathman has been teaching this class since the start of the 2007-2008 school year, making this year his 26th year of teaching at MHS. He also teaches accounting and has internship supervision classes this year.

Speaking to Senior, Cat Palacios, she said, “The class has helped me with knowing the terms and bare basics to build a good knowledgeable base.”

Junior, Kierstan Trost, said, “Its pretty simple and a good resource for the future. It reminds you to save and spend responsibly and just good to manage your money in general.”

Mr.Strathman, said, “The thing I enjoy most about teaching this class is that really everything we cover during the semester can definitely be put to use in real life. This class challenges student perspectives on money and also teaches them procedures for handling their finances.”
