The McPherson High School choir program is hosting their first concert of the year in the main theater on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
In the concert, all of the choirs will be performing. Those choirs include Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, Bel Canto, Mixed Ensemble, and Vita Voce.
The theme of this concert, as confirmed by director Nicholas Griggs, is “Love from Around the World.” There will be about 16 songs performed. When asked what song he’s most excited to hear, Griggs said, “Joyful, Joyful.”
“Joyful, Joyful,” is a song originally written for the 1993 film, “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.” It will be performed by all of the choirs together at the very end for a big finish.
“I really like a song Bel Canto’s doing, called ‘Love’; it’s a different style, it’s not quite choral music, and they’re getting the style down, so it sounds good,” said Griggs.
Griggs also said that while he’s excited for the concert, he’s also a bit nervous and hopes that everything will come together well.
A member of Bel Canto, sophomore Lily Vance, also shared her thoughts about this concert. “I think ‘Joyful, Joyful’ is going to sound the best, I’m really excited to sing it.”
Vance said that she’d like people to put more effort into their singing and movements for the concert so everything will look nice. She said that the worst part of going to choir every day is having her classmates not move when they’re supposed to.
“It’s really frustrating,” Vance said, “having some people putting in a bunch of effort and some people not participating at all.”
Both Vance and Griggs agree that they think this concert will be fun for people to watch.
“Come see it! It’s a fun concert, [with] lots of variety for a fall, opening choral concert,” Griggs said in closing.
