The upcoming play this fall at McPherson High School is 13 Signs to Stop Being A Pirate. Showings are October 3, 2024, and October 4, 2024 at 7 p.m.
Students from all four grades have worked tirelessly for a month to bring the play together.
“We started right at the end of August, so about a month.” Said Joseph Hirsch, the new theater teacher and director.
The play follows two girls questioning their piracy. “There’s two girls, they don’t think they want to be pirates anymore, so they’re questioning if they should be.” Hirsch said.
The cast is made up of a bunch of pirates, the main pirate being the Pirate King, played by Dane Jakaboski, and the ‘official’ main character is Jamie, played by Kamryn Carver and Layla Rank. Other pirates include Bennett Rank, Alyssa Carpenter, Tiana Anderson, EJ Griffith, Libby White, Dawson Elliot, and Jossalyn Kunc.
“A lot of them are freshmen, and I’ve had a lot of fun. It’s their first ever show in high school.” Hirsch explained.
Even working hands-on with the play, phones did create an issue as a distraction.
“It got so bad, where Mr. Hirsch got angry on Tuesday and took everyone’s phones,” said Alyssa Carpenter, a freshman actress.
The stage crew helps with costumes, sounds, and spotlight, and tech theater made the props.
“Sometimes I help out with the costumes, other times I do the sounds and spotlight.” Said Tiana Anderson, the Thespian Troupe’s one and only stage crew member.
Come and watch these amazing students perform tonight at McPherson High School at 7 p.m.!
