Mental health is a hard thing to bring up especially with teenagers. Many of us believe that others won’t understand what we are going through or we don’t have a safe place to tell things. But many teens do go through tough spots throughout school. Approximately one out of five students are diagnosed with a mental health condition and one out of 10 attempt suicide.
Even people of age go through tough times. With new responsibilities of trying to do what you are expected to do after high school. College, getting a stable job, the balance of work and social life, budgeting, starting a family, are some of the many social expectations and pressures of becoming an adult.
Men are more likely to commit suicide with the percentage being at 80% in the United States and women being at 20%. The reason for men’s percentage being so high is the social pressure and the reluctance from the after mass of social pressure. Society expectations of men having to be emotionally strong, Only 13 million men seek help while 49 million women seek help in the United States.
No matter the age everyone needs help at times and there are many resources for free help. The first step to recovery is admitting that you have a problem, the next is asking for help if you need it. Nobody will judge if you ask for help and if you are still worried there are ways to ask for help anonymously. n
