The Gaza-Israel war and what caused it

Israel is at war with Gaza and the world is starting to shift

Gaza, commonly known as the Gaza Strip, bombed Israel at 6:30 a.m. on October 7. Gaza bombed Israel due to certain religious sites being disrespected. Israel declared war on Gaza the very next day.

Israel and Gaza have extremely different religious traditions within their borders, which is shown by their actions. “The coordinated attack by Hamas caught Israel by surprise…” says Niha Mashi, The Washington Post.

Even though Gaza and Israel have had wars and disputes in the past, this war is different, causing each country to sit on the edge of their seat. With thousands already injured, we have witnessed firsthand how far people will go to protect their religious beliefs.

Some believe the reason Gaza bombed Israel is because of the al-Aqsa Mosque, a sacred Muslim site located in the holy city, Jerusalem. There have been videos posted of the al-Aqsa Mosque being lit up by gunfire and surrounded with protesters. With 99 percent of the Gaza population being religious, there is often conflict over religion and what people classify as a religious site.

“The United States unequivocally condemns this appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza…” states Joe Biden on October 7. With promises to help if needed, Biden ended his speech saying he will keep the families who have been hurt in his prayers.

Since Israel has declared war on Gaza, over 1,300 people have been killed and more have been injured. People from around the world are showing support toward Israel and Gaza. Although most are wondering how many lives will be lost, or how many supplies will be needed, some are wondering is this the beginning of World War 3?
