Same Scene, New Theme
September 25, 2018
The McPherson High school students section cheered on the football team through their cowboy themed western wear on Friday, September 21st. The school spirit theme board highlights each week’s theme for Friday Night Lights.
Every Friday when there is a home football game, a few people from the senior class post the themes on a bulletin board in the lunchroom. Alaina Diggs, Senior at MHS says, “The administration asked us how people would get more involved and know about the themes, so I thought, oh we have bulletin boards, we can probably post the themes on the boards rather than people hearing it from other people.” Alaina and a couple of her friends was already put to work before the school year even began preparing the themes for Friday Night Lights. “A couple of my friends and I picked out all of the themes before school started so the cheerleaders could coordinate what they were going to wear,” said Diggs.
When coming up with the themes, they had a few ideas of what they wanted to do. “We wanted to be more original than the past, even though we used a couple of ideas from past years,” said Diggs. The school has been doing themes for football games for a long time. The board is a new addition this year to get kids more excited for Friday Night Lights. “The board gets everybody pumped to get ready and plan their outfits, and it makes people feel more involved,” said Diggs.
This school year you can see how every small edition to the school improves students spirit and enthusiasm. Making the change to posting the themes in the lunch room rather than twitter like past years, makes more students dress up and feel more involved in their school. Let’s keep the small changes going to reach a better MHS!
