What’s Up with the New Bell Schedule?

The McPherson High School administration and Board of Education has approved a new bell schedule on January 25, 2016 for the 2016-2017 school year. Principal Brad Plackemeier proposed the idea to StuCo for almost two weeks to get their thoughts and feedback. McPherson High School students will be starting and ending the day at different times, however while the change is final, the times are not. Next year many McPherson students will be affected by the change, such as Band, Swimming, Volleyball, and many other activities.

The bell schedule was decided to be changed for various reasons. The main reason is to cut the missed afternoon classes for students involved in activities. Another reason is to help with students and if they have jobs after school. It helps with activities for coaches.

The new bell schedule has the school day starting at 7:50 to 2:45, and on Tuesdays school will get out at 2:15. Classes will also be shorter at around 44 minutes on Mondays, and Tuesdays. Wednesday through Friday classes will be 51 minutes long. The plan for the lunch schedule is going to be either 27 minutes or 30 minutes for each period of lunch. Morning practices and afternoon practices for sports will change times of when they will happen, but some things will just be the same.
