Finals Week

As the semester comes to a close, finals begin. The end of the year brings panic to many high school students as they try to pull up their grades before they are set in stone. Worrying about your final grades, GPA, and trying to get an A in that one class you’ve been trying really hard in all semester can take its toll on students.

“I’m a little stressed,” senior Hannah Stecklein said. “I like the idea of getting all A’s and I’m so close that these finals actually matter. I’m most worried about AP Gov because I don’t know what to expect.”

Stress can take its form in many ways. Procrastination takes over for some MHS students, and focusing on studying can seem like the hardest thing when Christmas is less than a week away.

“My brain has shut down because my stress levels are so high,” senior Grace Colaw said. “I am worried about AP Calc because if I’m wanting to keep an A then I will have to do very well on this final, and it is a very difficult final.”

Not only are students stressed, so are teachers. Getting everything graded can take a lot of time.

“I actually like how we do [finals] here,“ art teacher Mrs. Schoenwetter said. “At my last school they way we did it was really confusing. Here it is easier for me as a teacher to grade.”

While most students worry mostly about their grades, others have more to worry about than getting an A on a test. Family vacations and leaving early for Christmas break leave some with double the stress.

“Finals aren’t necessarily the most stressful part of the end of the semester for me this year,” senior Katie Wurm said. “The most stressful thing for me is getting things packed while also trying to fit all my finals in my schedule since I’ll be gone.”

The best way to get through finals week is to remember that Christmas is just around the corner.
