The lady pups’ softball season is coming to an end. With that being said they have had a wonderful year. As they are undefeated in their league.
The lady pups are led by coach Danica Fitzmorris. She loves coaching and has been coaching at McPherson for 11 years. Before she coached at McPherson she had coached at Canton Galva for three years.
Fitzmorris began coaching because she “was an athlete when I was young and loved competing.” She went on to play at the college level. After college, she knew she wanted to stay around sports so she started officiating. However, she soon realized coaching was what she wanted to do.
The team Just had a double-header game in Mulvane. The varsity score for game one was 18-4 and for game two, 16-2. They will go on later this week to play a Quad. Their opponents will be Great Bend, Junction City, and Salina South.
Just like all teams McPherson aspires to go to state. Even more so since last year, they took second place, so everything riding on the line.
When asked how the team is preparing for state, Fitzmorris replied “We know we are going to face some tough pitchers so we try to give our team as many at-bats as possible with our pitcher who’s the same level. We do routine defense work every day to help prepare us as well.”
Fitzmorris believes if we work as a team and stay focused and determined that we have a good shot at making it to state. Especially since the Varsity record is 18-4 and JV is 16-2.
Come out and support the lady pups’ unfinished business at four p.m. on Monday, May 6 at Grant Field.
