At school, some teachers consider behavior points to be a large part of a students overall grade. But, why? Aren’t we here to learn? To be graded on how well we perform academically? Why do they care about how we act in class? How can that be categorized as part of a “history” grade if it has nothing to do with history? Maybe behavior points should be considered, but not towards your whole academic grade. 

I understand that there can be positives in giving behavior points, but to the level that some teachers go, seems outrageous. I just don’t think it should be such a big portion of someone’s overall grade. 

There are a lot of things that students have to worry about with their grades. We know that we need to learn the material, do the homework, study for tests, etc., but learning how to behave was not on the study guide.  

Also, there are many other things that the teachers should probably be more worried about. For example, how that individual student is doing academically, or what is going on with that student to make their grade drop. 

Another thing is that teachers pay more attention to them during tests, which I get but I don’t think the behavior points should have more impact on my grade then the test did. 

The other thing is that if someone is not good at the subject and doesn’t pay attention, but they are quiet, they will have a good grade because they don’t talk. They will not know anything about what they are doing in class but they are still passing because of their behavior points. 

There is also the other side which is the teachers side of it. Some teachers like doing the behavior points, so it will most likely make the class stay quiet and try to focus, which will make the teacher’s job easier.

Also if you think about it, when you are older, you will most likely not have a job if you don’t behave right and are always doing something you shouldn’t be.
