Video games aren’t sports!

Video games shouldn’t be considered a sport. The biggest reason is because it involves less exercise than sports.

According to Global Human Performance, 10-15 hours is the ideal amount of training or exercise for an athlete. However, training could be more or less per person.

Even though video games have positive aspects like skills and coordination, I believe that most people think video games are sports because of Esports. Their argument is that the game requires competitiveness, practice, energy, and skill.

While the games may use all those things it still doesn’t involve any exercise. According to National Libary of Medicine, gaming has a tremendous negative effect on children’s obesity, “sedentary lifestyle that is now common in our nation from watching so much television or playing sedentary video games.”

Some people argue video games lack the traditions and rules sports have. Video games have a whole category called role-play games where there is no winner. Athletics have rules set in place to know who wins.

I personally think that it’s silly to play sports online when you could be playing them in real life, plus you can get more physical activity. If you spend your time playing the video game then you obviously like the concept of the sport.

At the end of the day, I think it makes some athletes angry that people consider something a sport that doesn’t take as much physical effort as the traditional “sport”.
