Sub-State victory for the McPherson High School volleyball team! Friday October 21 the team won the Sub-State.
The team worked hard all season to reach this goal and in the last four years. Varsity volleyball has been to State three times. McPherson was in the 4A category this year and despite all the good teams, the team is sub-state champion!
According to Alexandrya Romero, the only Senior of the Varsity team, key to success is the “Next Ball” mentality. This philosophy is based on thinking always ahead and exactly to the next ball. The beauty of volleyball is that there is always another ball and the game is not over until the last point is scored.
This year the first part of the season was pretty hard because the team played the most competitive teams but towards the middle was the most difficult part. The most competitive teams were out of the way and Varsity started playing lower teams and this was the most challenging part of the season, according to Romero.
Sometimes it’s very hard to keep going when the game is not going well but the key is to have fun. Romero said, “If we aren’t doing good then we look at each other and say let’s have some fun!”.
Winning the Sub-State is always a big emotion. There were so many feelings when the last ball touched the ground and it seemed almost impossible. After all the difficulties and the challenging moments that McPherson had during the season, the team won the sub-state!
The team has been practicing all this week to be ready for the most important matches: State. Friday, October 27 at the Sport Arena of Hutchinson. The team is playing three matches, at 3.30 p.m., 5.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m.
After all the sacrifices these girls don’t want to give up and they won’t stop until they gain their last goal: be State champions!
