Next month, tryouts are being held for the MHS Hi-steppers. April 8th and 11th practice sessions will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Lincoln Elementary. The tryouts to make the team will then be held on April 13th from 9:00am to 12:00pm in the MHS auxiliary gym.

The dancers trying out will learn a routine taught by the coach, Dara Reese, that they will then perform among other students trying out. A group of judges will ask a series of questions to the dancer trying out and once they have performed their routine, they will judge their dancing and pick the students for the future team.

Being a part of the Hi-Steppers team includes performing at home football games and basketball games, as well as making appearances at other events throughout the school year. Hi-Steppers are a role model that kids and students at MHS get to look up to, as well as have a good extracurricular to put on a college application.

Captain of the Hi-Steppers, Kallie Jost, said, “I have been on the Hi-Steppers since my freshman year, but i’ve been doing dance since I was four years old. I decided to try out because I always looked up to them as I was growing up. My favorite part about being a Hi-Stepper is performing in the roundhouse and being a role model for younger girls. Don’t be afraid to tryout! Try your best and most importantly, point your toes!”

Speaking to the coach, Dara Reese, she said, “There are several reasons I love being the MHS dance coach. I have been dancing since the age of three so it comes as no surprise that I LOVE dance. Working with MHS and these girls has introduced me to some amazing people that I can now call friends. It also provides me with a way to serve McPherson’s youth. They may make me want to pull my hair out at times, but I enjoy every minute spent with those girls.”

If you have an interest in dancing or cheer of any kind, try out for the MHS Hi-Steppers.You would get the chance to be apart of a team and support your school. Good luck!
