The McPherson High School wrestling team is coming into the 2017 – 18 season strong with many returning seniors. The whole team is excited to be back and feeling confident with the number of new and veteran wrestlers. Over 50 students will be on this 4A ranked team consisting of a 18 total girls’ team.

The grappling Pups will be led by seniors Michael Mendez, Donovan Bailey, Hannah Moore, Ian Alambaugh, Luke Thompson, Brynton Crews (2-time state qualifier), and Bailey Yarborough (6th State Placer). Along with the returning seniors, state qualifier Scott Radke, junior, and 2nd state placer Rhett Edmonson (Sophomore) will also be back for the Pups. The 4A rankings have Rhett Edmonson 5th ranked at 120, Scott Radke 5th at 152, and Bailey Yarborough 5th at 182. The team as a whole is ranked 10th in 4A.
Last year, the team obtained 2nd in the AVCTL – III with 5 state qualifiers and 3 state placers. This is the year the wrestling team could establish a strong team and deepen the roots. As well as goals to win the league title, these strong Pups may have their sights on a state placing team!

The varsity line up is too early to call, but ,with numbers, the team is sure to have the best wrestler on the team for each weight class.
