Las Vegas Shooting

On October 1st, 2017, forty-eight year old Stephen Paddock shot and killed 58 people and injured more than 500 people at a country concert in Las Vegas. Stephen was staying in Hotel Mandalay Bay, room 32. The windows at the hotel don’t open, so he hit two windows with a hammer in his suite to have access to the concert. He also had two cameras outside his door and one in the hallway to see if anyone was coming. Stephen was supplied with forty-seven firearms, shot guns, rifles, and pistols.

When the shooting started to happen, police got their first call at 10:08 p.m. During the time police were getting to the hotel, Stephen kept shooting until 10:19 p.m. When the police got into room 32, he was found dead, shot in the head with a gun close next to him.

Survivors of the shooting said that when they first heard the shooting, that of course sounded like pops, they didn’t know what it was until people were actually being shot. As people run for their lives a woman finds out where the shots are coming from and points towards the hotel. Even people from high up balconies that were recording had to take cover and duck down.

Hopkins, who is a lead singer of a group Elvis Monroe, took over 20 people into a giant freezer to hide in and help calm down. While Hopkins and other people were going into this freezer, they all thought at first that it was a trailer.

Alexis Verow said, “I think it’s super unfortunate and such a tragedy should have been taken care of faster that it was.” When asked what Alexis thinks about gun control, she responded with, “I think that guns shouldn’t be allowed in public areas and the hotel should have seen all of the guns that were brought up to his room.”

Megan Grieb said, “I feel very sorry for anyone who was harmed in the shooting on October 1st. On the topic of gun control though I feel that we need more strict laws, but we shouldn’t get rid of them completely.”

Crystalen Breeden said, “It’s a shame what happened to everyone at the concert. People were there to have a good time, not to lose loved ones.” When I asked Crystalen about her opinion on gun control, she said, “When people get guns they need stricter background checks, since his father was a felon and on FBI watch. The equipment he used to murder should be regulated.”
