McPherson High School Main Stage Theatre’s fall production of The 39 Steps, took place October 6th and 7th. The show began at 7:30 in the MHS auditorium. Tickets sold for $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for students, and $3.00 for seniors. Activity passes were also accepted.

The play, which was based off the the Alfred Hitchcock thriller, starred Zach Anderson as Richard Hannay, Shantelle Mogollon as Annabella Schmidt, Mattea Black as Pamela, and Mikala Lacey as Margaret.

The 39 Steps was directed by theater teacher, Greg McGlynn, and was managed by senior Kiley Delany.

“One of the best parts of directing a show is to watch the actors’ journey through the process of developing the story. It’s always fun to watch the students and cast explore voice, mannerism, and characterization, in the end presenting the final product on show night bringing laughter to all though the actor’s discovery,” McGlynn said.

“This was a challenging show, due to the fact it called for thirty three scene changes and ten actors, six of them playing multiple roles,” McGlynn said.

One of those actors was senior Tyler Gifford who played Swing Actor #2.

“It’s a beautiful thing to go out and transform into the character you’re acting,” Gifford said.                          “The best part about acting is the connections you make with everyone around you.”

Students Matt Elits, Molly Strickler, Dakota Marlett, Kade Goss, Bailly Dykes, and Jena Shanks helped make the performance possible by taking charge of the lighting, sound, set design, makeup and costuming.
