The Emporia State Marching Festival was held October the 5th at Emporia State University. McPherson High School band placed first in the competition. Receiving a one, the highest rank possible, the band had a successful day.  McPherson’s band participates in this marching festival every year. This year they played a show including music from Cirque du Soleil.

“I was a little nervous at first but then I kind of got over the nervous feeling and it turned out to be really fun,”  says freshman MHS band member Maegan Vincent.

The MHS band has been training since band camp over the summer to improve upon marching skills, to do well in the football halftime shows, and the upcoming K-State Marching Festival. They practice every morning starting at 7:35am during the week and and even earlier at 7:15am on game days.  The band also has sectionals weekly to brush up on musicality.

McPherson High School band placed first in the competition in the eighty seventh percentile. Before the award ceremony MHS band watched Emporia State University’s band perform.

“I was very impressed their sound quality it is something I will never forget, I will definitely continue to march in college,” said Jackson Schrader, an MHS band member.
