MHS hosted its first color run on Saturday, September 24, 2016. The event was held at McPherson High School starting at 8am, and lasted until 11:30 the same morning. Students, friends, and family were all invited to participate in the 3.1 mile run. A registration fee of $25 was required for all participants. The fee also covered costs for t-shirts, and color packets. The fundraiser was organized to raise money for the 2017 Senior Class. All money raised will go to Project Graduation, senior breakfast, and the class’ graduation speaker.

“I thought it was a great Idea for a fundraiser! It was different from other fundraisers i’ve done because it wasn’t just handing out forms and asking people to buy shirts or cookie dough,” senior, Emma Ellet said.

The color run was made possible through My School Color Run, a fundraising organization.

My School Color Run provides schools with everything they need to hold their own fundraising color run. Supplies include the colored powder participants are showered with during the run.

“The race wasn’t very expensive, and you didn’t have to be a good runner to have fun with it. Some runners ran the entire course, but the rest of us had fun walking most of it,” Ellet said.

During the run the weather didn’t exactly comply; although that didn’t dampen the spirits of the runners.

“We sprinted to find shelter once the rain and hail started in the middle of the race. It actually made it all more fun,” Ellet joked.

The color run is hoped to become a new tradition for MHS seniors.

“I thought it was a great way to bring the community together in a fun and active way. It was definitely a bonus that the event benefited us as a fundraiser,” Ellet finished.
