Upcoming AP Exams
April 29, 2016
Beginning Monday May 2, students enrolled in Advanced Placement classes will begin their final AP exams. Testing will be held at 8am and 12pm at Hutchinson Community College at the McPherson location. All thirty four exams are scheduled during the two week period from May 2nd to May 13th.
Advanced placement courses offer college level curriculum and examinations to high school students. Many American colleges and universities give college credit for the course to students who obtain high scores on the exams. The tests are scored from 1-5, a 5 being the highest score. Although a score of 3 or higher is considered passing, some colleges will only accept a 4 or 5 for credit. AP classes are also weighted differently from the common high school courses. All AP classes are counted as a letter grade higher than what a student received in the class.
Most AP exams are set up into sections that include multiple choice, document based, and long essay questions. All sections are timed, and usually take a 2-3 hours to complete. Students are not allowed to change their answers once time is called, and the rules for communication during the exam are strict. Students began preparing for the tests weeks in advance, by completing practice questions, from exams taken in previous years.
“We have piles of packets for review, and everyday I go home and do one in order to try and be ready for the exam. In AP United States History we review notes and practice long essay questions as much as we can.” Emma Ellet, Junior said.
Ellet along with other students who are enrolled in multiple AP classes are preparing themselves for the two weeks of testing. Students can find out what date and time their test will be below.
