What was your vote?

All last week the high school celebrated spirit week and recognized Homecoming candidates. The Queen candidates were Jordan Babcock, Paige Gottwald, Olivia Retting, Ashtyn Schieferecke, and Ally Ulsaker. The King candidates were Spenser Wine, Jake Nikkel, Matt Zeitlow, Jacob Loecker and Drew Pyle. September 25, Homecoming Queen and King Ashtyn Schieferecke and Matt Zeitlow won in a race among a great cast of candidates. Students have filled out ballot forms over the week and we asked a few students who they voted for and why.

All interviews were anonymous. An anonymous student said that for Queen they voted Ashtyn, “She seems like one of those people who is just nice to everybody and that comes from a nice family. Also I thought her dress was really pretty. Her quote was pretty funny which shows that she can find humor in life. As well as she is planning to be a nurse, which shows she is a people person.” This student’s king vote was Matt Zietlow, “ I think it’s nice to show that our school accepts everyone, but he also seems like a sweet kid and it shows how confident he is in himself.”

Whereas some students chose not to vote, either because they don’t care for Fall Homecoming or simply because they forgot. As when asked why that student didn’t vote they replied “I don’t really get the idea. I feel the only time we need to vote for any candidates is during prom.”

Ally Ulsaker was interviewed about being a homecoming candidate. Ally responded “I was really surprised because I did not think I was going to be nominated at all.”  “Do you enjoy being a candidate?” “I have enjoyed it actually! I’ve gotten a lot of new instagram followers so that’s nice.” she told us.  Olivia Rettig was also asked about she felt about being a homecoming candidate. When I found out I was going to be a homecoming candidate I was thrilled. I remember my freshmen year when I saw the candidates and I really looked up to them. Now I can’t believe I am one of them. Time has flown by, and I wouldn’t trade the memories I have made in high school for anything. she replied. “There’s also no way I can choose between my friends. They are all beautiful inside and out, and each one deserves it.”
