This year’s Homecoming was a night to remember. Homecoming week was September 22-28. This week consisted of pep rallies, spirit week, a dance, Friday night football game, and crowning our homecoming queen and king during halftime.
This week means so much to not only our school but our community as well. Community is such an important part in our schools, as they are pouring in money, time, and effort to help support and watch kids excel and learn. Homecoming is a great chance to show the community all the wonderful things and inspiring candidates that they helped grow.
The winning queen candidate Cora Pavlovich is involved in KAY club, STUCO, international club, volleyball, and softball. Cora’s advice to future candidates is “Be yourself. Being yourself is the best thing you can do; don’t try to act like someone you’re not just for the appreciation of others.”
The week consisted of five spirit week days which were: PJ day, Class colors, Dress like a teacher, Jersey day, and 70’s day. Then we held a Homecoming Candidate assembly on September 24. During that assembly we saw all eight candidates walk across the stage sharing their major, what they plan to do when they grow up, and a few favorite memories. We had a school pep rally on September 27. But to end the night off strong, the football team won in overtime 29-23. Which brings our record to 2-2.
Carter Allen, our homecoming king, is involved in CYM, KAY club, football, baseball, and FBLA this year. Using this title, Carter plans to “keep giving back to my community and I know that I will continue to be kind to everyone that crosses paths with me. I will keep trying to improve people’s mindsets and make sure that kids can enjoy school.”
Students and staff at McPherson High school voted on these two winners because of the outstanding kindness and appreciation they have given this school. This goes to show that being kind to everyone pays off in the end. Younger class men look up to these inspiring individuals and they have become great role models to the whole community and school.
As Cora said she was surprised when she heard her name announced as the queen, she also has made sure to imply “you do not have to be the prettiest, smartest, or most talented to be liked. All you need to be is kind and genuine.” To piggyback off that, Carter stated “Being nice to everyone goes a long way and no matter if it’s a popular kid or not you need to be kind and show that you care for others.”
