Super Bowl 58 was an anticipated matchup between two of the best teams in the NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs won in overtime against the San Francisco 49ers.
This Super Bowl was uniquely special because it was a rematch of Super Bowl 54. The first drive for the 49ers looked promising until Christian McCaffrey fumbled on Kansas City’s 29-yard line.
Cristina Pena, a lifelong 49ers fan said, “I was in shock I did not expect the game to start that way.” In the second quarter, 49er’s kicker Jake Moody kicked a 55-yard field goal to a three-point lead on the Chiefs.
Soon after that the 49ers got a touchdown to bring their lead up to ten. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings threw the touchdown pass to Christian McCaffrey.
To close out the first half Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker kicked a 57-yard field goal. The score going into halftime was 10-3.
With around five minutes to go in the third quarter, the Chiefs kicked another field goal to bring the score to 10-6. Late in the third quarter, the 49ers muffed a punt resulting in the Chiefs getting the ball in the red zone.
During the next play, Marquez Valdes-Scantling scored a touchdown to bring the Chiefs ahead 10-13. A lifetime Chiefs fan, Jennifer Fiedler said, “It was one of my favorite moments of the game.”
A couple of minutes into the fourth quarter, Jauan Jennings, for the 49ers, scored a touchdown. Pena stated, “Jauan Jennings was so fun to watch the entire game.”
Jake Moody missed the extra point. The next drive ended with the Chiefs scoring a field goal to tie the game. Both teams scored another field goal to bring the score to 19-19 at the end of regulation. The game went into overtime.
“The moment we went into overtime I had a really good feeling,” stated Fiedler. The 49ers scored a field goal on the opening drive to bring them up three. The Chiefs went on to score with Patrick Mahomes throwing the game-winning touchdown to Mecole Harman.
