On October 12, a vital event unfolded at McPherson High School. An assembly was held, not about pep rallies or school dances, but on the grim topic of fentanyl. Chief Golden and local police officers shared their insights on the dangers of fentanyl, emphasizing health risks and legal implications. Three students shared their thoughts on the assembly, highlighting the impactful nature of Chief Golden’s message.

The assembly was a revealing experience for our student body. It was a serious topic, and some felt unprepared. However, others saw it as an eye-opening event, helping them see the bigger picture around fentanyl. They realized how even small actions can have significant impacts. “I recommend learning about fentanyl, its effects, and how it works, and how to help others in case of an emergency,” Kaya Lowery stated. It was a day of learning, reflecting, and understanding the importance of knowledge.

The assembly served as a crucial wake-up call. It emphasized that education, even on heavy topics, is vital. This knowledge isn’t just for academic purposes. This assembly showed us that understanding complex issues could lead to better decision-making in critical situations, even if it could mean the difference between life and death. This assembly was a reminder of our responsibility to ourselves and each other, helping us impact our community when we are well-informed and prepared.
