6 “Pop Culture” Fashion Trends of 2021

Over sized shoulder pad “boyfriend” jackets is number one. According to The Trend Spotter, they “create a long line silhouette and play with shapes with an 80s-inspired oversized boyfriend blazer.” As well as an illusion that it cinches in your waist and elongates your legs. You can “rock this look” by wearing straight leg trousers or leather shorts, “for an ultra-modern style.” These over sized blazers are typically worn in colors such as charcoal, powder blue, and different neutral colors.  One question, where did “boyfriend jacket” come from, why not just “Over sized shoulder pad blazer”?

Number two, are black face masks. Personally, I like them better than the blue ones. Just because of the fact that black can match with anything. The Trend Spotter says “When it comes to protecting yourself, you may as well do it beautifully” calling these a “sleek black face mask” and saying that they match almost any outfit you wear. “The beauty behind this face-covering is the limitless styling opportunities that come along with it.”. Because most people (mostly females) like to dress nicely, a black face mask will be the easiest option to a face covering, as it is the easiest color to match things with.

Pastel tones comes at number three. Pastels are beautiful shades of colors. A light color that’s easy on the eye. “These sorbet-inspired colors are the perfect option for summer and they suit a wide variety of skin tones.”  Looking at pictures, most people tended to wear mint colored suits or sets or a suit or set of lavender. There’s not much to say about this one. Although, maybe a full body pastel suit is too much, maybe just a few items of your outfit.

Four, white knee-high boots. The Trend Spotter calls them a “classic gogo dancers inspired item of footwear.”, and that its a “Nancy Sinatra-approved look”. Typically worn with a patterned mini dress or skirt, or a pair of “funky leggings”, sometimes with a roll-neck shirt. Or you can wear it as a “slouchy style for an effortless feel”.

Number five, are sweater vests. Usually over a slightly over sized white button-up, or a white T-shirt. PureWow saying they were once reserved for “nerdy college professors” along with a few others, were now a “cool wardrobe staple for everyone from Gen Z high schoolers to 40-year-old professionals.” The vests are typically worn with fun patterns, like animal prints.

Lastly, at number six, are the loose denim jeans. Otherwise known as “mom jeans”. Where skinny jeans were in our dressers, now lie these ” ‘70s wide-leg jeans, ‘90s skater jeans and boot-cut jeans”. PureWow says  that “while mom jeans, much like the millennial-beloved skinny jeans, will never truly be out of style, a desire to sport comfier, more relaxed silhouettes makes total sense as a sort of natural transition between wearing sweatpants all day and a return to the structured trousers we wore pre-pandemic.”
