Tuesday, last week (9,7,2021) a very large 7.0 magnitude earthquake attacked just above the Mexican City of Acapulco, a major seaport on the southern coast, which caused a decent bit of damage and at-least 1 death

The shaking from the earthquake was even felt in Mexico City.  It was said to have stricken 7.5 miles below the surface.

The earthquake was caused by thrust faulting in the subduction zone which is when there is a break in the earths crust and the older rocks get pushed above the younger rocks causing possible seismic activity. This area near Acapulco, Mexico has not hosted an earthquake above 7.0 magnitude since 1911.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said “There were no reports of major damage across the country”.
