The Girls JV Basketball team played hard against their opponents, the Andover Trojans.

The McPherson High Girls Junior Varsity basketball team won their first game of the season against Andover, which took place on Friday, December 6 in the MHS Auxiliary Gym. The girls have been preparing since the beginning of the season by holding practices after school every day of the week and on Saturdays. To improve their skills in all areas, the girls participate in stamina exercises, scrimmages against the Varsity team, and other various drills.

The game began with the girls pumped up and motivated, and ended with the team in the lead 18-5. They knocked it into high gear in the second quarter and went into halftime with a score of 41-12, optimistic for the second half of the game.

They didn’t let up the second half, ending the third quarter of the game 58-14. The girls continued to speed ahead and didn’t show signs of stopping. Even when victory was in clear view, the girls pushed just a little more, ending the game with a score of 68-14. “We didn’t let them get to us and we didn’t get down on ourselves or anything,” said number 54, sophomore Tailynn Buettgenbach.

Overall, it was clear this team is made up of girls who are focused, communicative and have a hard-working spirit.  The rest of the season looks bright for the MHS Girls JV basketball team, and we wish them the best of luck.
