Take A Step… Or 39
August 26, 2016
At McPherson High School, the theatrical performances are one of the most popular events that our amazing students and staff alike put on. Whether it’s for a date, watching a friend perform, or just for fun, hundreds of people show up throughout the year to see them. Going to my first school musical in my Freshman year, I expected nothing more than some slapped-together show full of sharp notes and missed steps. I was skeptical, to say the least. When the curtains opened and darkness crowded the theatre, music sounded from the pit and my skin formed goosebumps.
It was phenomenal. From all of the hard work the actors had so obviously put into all of the practicing the students and teachers playing in the pit had to put in, I was absolutely baffled by the amount of talent they could put in one show. I made it my goal to attend as many of the school musicals and plays being put on as possible from there on, and not once have I been disappointed. The familial relationship amongst all of the individuals helping out is what really makes the shows fantastic.
The upcoming show for this Fall is The 39 Steps. “A fugitive and his sidekick have to save Britain from spies,” explained Senior and regular actress Kiley Delaney. “There’s over 150 characters played by only a few people, so it gets really funny and silly!” The cost is five dollars for an adult and four dollars for a student. Whether a first-time viewer or a regular audience member, make your way to the McPherson High School theatre and buy a ticket October 6 and 7 to support our up-and-coming actors.
