Senior Skip Day!!!
May 12, 2016
There comes a time when seniors are just done, when all motivation goes out the window, when students would rather jump into a dumpster than go to school. On May 11, seniors took the day off and skipped. Senior Skip Day is a tradition where the majority of the senior class skip school. The day off it often spend at an amusement park, pool, lake, or other attractions close in date to May 4th.
The most common day for senior skip day is usually the Monday after prom but this year’s seniors won the most COTY points to earn that day off.
“Earning the COTY points earlier this year was amazing. It was a day we got to recover from prom and it made this year’s senior skip day a little more rebellious considering that could have been our skip day. The word got around quick on when it was going to be by the number of participants we had. A lot of people argued it but with our new principal we all knew he would be cool about it,” said senior Bailey Holton.
Even though most of the seniors enjoyed their day away from school, some came to class to earn some extra credit.
“I think it was cool to see some seniors still come! I wouldn’t have expected for them to come but I guess I would have done the same thing if I knew a possible detention was coming my way. I wouldn’t be ready to break my no detention streak for that,” said junior Hadley Hageman.
In previous years the participants of senior skip day earned a go to jail card, a morning detention, scheduled during the senior parade but this year, seniors received a get out of jail card.
This year’s senior parade will be held on Friday, May 20th in the high school parking lot.
